Learning Logs

Thank you for all your hard work that can be seen in the childrens' learning logs. They look great. Today the next activities have come home - stuck into the learning logs ready for you.

We are learning to add coins together to make different amounts.
Suggested activities:
*start small and slowly increase the amounts, this will help build confidence
*add just 1 pence coins first of all, if they can count in 2's add 2 pence coins
*use their fingers to help them
*if they are finding it hard - show them the amount on the actual coin, then write an adding sum that they can then add together
*play shop with household items - label each item with a price, the child chooses an item then finds the coins to pay.
*you become the customer, give them the money for your object, they have to add it together to check that the amount is correct
*Choose two items, add the cost then find the coins needed.

We are learning to recognise and write capital letters.
Suggested activities:
*write out the alphabet in lowercase letters, can they write the capital next to the lowercase?
*Play pairs. Write out the alphabet twice, once in lowercase letters and again in capital letters. Spread cards out in two sections on table. Turn one card from each section over, does the lowercase letter and upper case letter match.
*use the same cards to play snap
*think what we use capital letters for - eg start sentences, names of people and places. Write down some examples.

Thank you, Mrs Farrell
