We are really proud of the way the children behaved on our school trip. They all followed the safety rules and worked hard all day. They were a credit to you and to Penygawsi school. Well done to all the children!!! We will be creating a class display of all the activities and investigations, please come and have a look when it's finished.
On Wednesday we are taking part in a fundraising event in aid of the charity 'CLIC Sargent'. All children can wear a wig to school (this is optional - Please don't go out and buy a wig) and give a suggested donation of £1 for the charity (again this is optional).
We have opened our school library this week 'The Dazzling World of Books' will be available to all pupils on a Monday and Wednesday lunch time and after school on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children will have the opportunity to choose a book to read at home and change it the following week. I know you all read many books with your children at home but please encourage them to choose a library book as this develops independence and love of reading which is at the heart of all learning.
This week in school we will be learning to add and take away using money. -(Example---5 ten pence coins plus 7 one pence coins =57p Take away 3 one pence coins =54p) Please could you practise this with your child at home.
The home task this week is based on our 'Badger Maths problem solving'. Children need to learn how to count on in different steps from any given number. I have asked them to complete a grid by counting on in 5s and 2s. We have been working on this in class during carpet Maths and there are examples on the sheet. If your child finds this easy please extend the activity by starting from higher numbers.
In Language this week we are looking at the structure of a story and we will be creating a story map to help us focus on the beginning, middle and end of a story.
In Science and Geography we will be writing up our investigations and activities from our trip to Barry. We will be writing up an evaluation of our trip during ICT using the 2Publish program.
In PE we are going to create movement and dance using streamers. I'm sure the children will really enjoy these lessons. Please can children keep trainers in school as some of our PE lessons will be outdoors this term.
