Dear Parents
Christmas is approaching quickly now and we have just started practising for our carol concert. We will be telling the story of Christmas through traditional and modern carols. All the children in Y Graig need to wear Christmas jumpers, as we are carol singers and narrators.

Our role play area has now been changed and the children can soon pretend to be an elf in Santa's workshop. We need lots of small boxes and wrapping paper so if you have any spare please can you send them into school.

In Maths this week we have been learning about the properties of 2D shapes. We have been naming shapes and sorting them into straight and curved sides using a Venn diagram.

Our language lessons this week have focused on tales from other cultures. We have read 'The Rabbit Who Stole the Fire' a North American story. As part of the Big Write the children have been looking at sentence openers. They are learning to start a sentence with 'where' an event happened- (down in the valley, up on a hill, behind the school, net to the train station etc) or 'when' an event happened - (early one morning, late at night, one day last week, just after supper etc). The children will choose their favourite sentence opener to re write the beginning of the story. They have really enjoyed the story and I'm pleased that all the children in class love books. Thank you for all the reading you do with the children at home, they are all really keen to read in school and they have really worked hard learning our sight words in class.

We have a moral of the week in school, and this week we are learning about 'respect' and children are being encouraged to show respect for themselves, for others and for property.
